Community shared solar is a solar energy project placed on local community buildings or land where local residents can benefit from the energy being created in their neighborhood.
Community solar panels can be placed on churches, schools, and residential buildings. Local participating residents get a discounted utility bill because of the energy generated by the community solar panels.
Community solar projects generate cheaper, cleaner energy for actual savings on their ConEdison bills.
The goal of the Bronx Community Solar Project is to construct one of the first community solar projects to deliver clean, green energy to the Bronx neighborhoods to save money on our energy bills and create new sustainable clean energy jobs.
The first step is to get at least 500 residents to sign up to show interest in developing lower cost clean energy that the community plans, controls and develops. There is no cost or fees for signing up for pre-registration, and the way your energy is delivered from ConEdison will not change.
The Bronx Community Solar Project is led by the Bronx nonprofit, In Time of Need, and funded by the State of New York.
We use a community-based process to plan and design projects that partners with established community partner organizations to engage the Bronx community around the benefits of community shared solar energy projects.
Our goal is to support local job training programs and hire local residents for the solar energy project that will be placed on Bronx rooftops.
After the project is operational, local Bronx residents that have signed up to participate will receive lower cost energy credits applied to their electric bill.
These energy credits generated by the community solar panels on Bronx buildings will lower the overall cost residents have to pay for electricity.
Community solar projects generate cheaper, cleaner energy so communities can benefit by saving money on their ConEdison bill.
